| The Port Rashid is a major port situated on the seaward side of the city of Dubai.Port Rashid has grown to be the principal port of the United Arab Emirates. Vessels arriving at Port Rashid are required to provide the Operations Department and or the Harbour Master with the following ETA and draft on arrival

- Confirm the vessel's ETA at least 24 hours prior to arrival at the designated pilotage area.
- Notify ETD 1 hour prior to departure.

- Extend to 5nm.
- Port Rashid has no approach channel but entry should be made between the breakwaters from the N.
- Dubai approach buoy lies in position Lat 2521'N, Long 05514'E which is 3.7nm from Port Rashid entrance buoy RW.Fl.10secs. Port Rashid entrance should be approached from the north in a direction of 182.
- Width of entrance 190m, depth 13.0m.
- The turning buoy is situated to the N edge of the 13.0m channel in the outer turning basin, this basin having a radius of 180m. Buoy yellow top mark.FL.R.
- Inner basin turning radius is 160m, depth 11.5m.

- The front leading light is situated on the main breakwater in position Lat 2516'N, Long 05516'E day mark painted red and yellow. Triangular board with breakwater rocks painted white. Light quick flashing white.
- The rear leading light is situated on the dry-dock lee breakwater in position Lat 2515'N, Long 05516'E day mark painted red and yellow. Triangular boards with breakwater rocks painted white. Light Occ.W.2secs.
- The leading lights are situated 1,450m apart.

Anchorage is 3nm from the terminal. A restricted number of vessels can anchor within the breakwater, although size is a limitation. Under instruction from the Harbour Master, loading and discharge, ex lighters, may be carried out if required. The holding ground is poor, ships are recommended to use more cable than usual. Close watch should be kept during "shammal winds" (Nov-Mar) from a NW'ly direction.Long term anchorage, enclosed by the following 4 positions:

- 25°21.18'N 55°15.36'E

| The Dubai High light, on the Dubai International Trade Centre 4km from the terminal, is visible for 50km and has the following characteristics; Gp.Fl.W.30secs. Breakwater and leading lights Lee Breakwater light F1.R.25secs, Main Breakwater light Gp.F1(2)G.30secs; Front Lead light Qk.F1.W.0.5secs, Position Lat 25°16'N, Long 55°16'E; Rear Lead light Gp.Occ.W.2secs; Position Lat 25°15'N, Long 55°16'E. The Dubai approach buoy, a black and white pillar buoy F1.10secs, bears 350°(T) x 4.6nm from the main breakwater. |
| The terminal has three tugs of 2,450hp. |
Pilotage compulsory, except other than those exempted, whether entering, leaving or moving with Port Rashid, will be required to have services of a licensed pilot. The following vessels will be exempted ships:
- Ship of war
- Pleasure craft
- Ships of less than 300t
- Tenders of MENAS
- Country craft
Vessels requiring a pilot should give at least 2 hours notice of arrival in the pilot boarding area. Outbound ships should advise pilot at least 1 hour prior to departure. Masters are advised that outward pilots cannot take the ship to sea without sighting valid immigration clearance. The pilot boarding area is located N of the breakwater entrance 1.0-1.6nm off. |
| Vessels of up to 230m LOA are allowed entry with longer vessels at the Harbour Master's discretion, draft depend upon depth of water at the berth and tide restrictions during the period of stay in port. |

An efficient inter port trucking arrangement enables containers to be shuttled between Port Rashid and Jebel Ali. A new 8 lane highway covers the 35km distance. |
| Port Rashid Oil jetty is situated on the main breakwater 260m N of the control tower, it accommodates tankers up to LOA 230m, depth alongside jetty 11.5m. |
